Led by the great-grandniece of the famous Impressionist artist himself, this guided tour of the historic Degas House takes you through Edgar Degas’ former New Orleans home and art studio. Experience first-hand the setting that inspired many of his masterpieces, and tour the surrounding Creole neighborhood to see locations referenced in Degas' New Orleans letters. Such a great tour of a really beautiful house. I learned a lot about my favorite painter and his family. There were definitely parts about his life I did not know about. Learning about his family was also very interesting and what life was like in New Orleans back then. Our tour guide was excellent and she definitely knew her history. Afterwards we also did a short walking tour around the neighborhood and learned about some of the beautiful surrounding homes. Highly recommend doing this!

It was very interesting to learn about the history of Degas, his family and how his time in New Orleans influenced his work and his life. Further, we were intrigued by the history of the house and how it came to it's present form. This is was a great opportunity to get deeper into the history of the city and see a part of the city we had not visited before. We included the breakfast as part of our tour and were delighted. Although it was unusually cold the day we were there, and we could not sit and enjoy it in the courtyard, we very much enjoyed having our meal in the dining room, visiting with the kitchen staff and the guests of the bed and breakfast.

It was a very informative tour and our tour guide was well versed in the history, which made the story telling aspect come to live when we were on the grounds.

This is a great tour for anyone interested in art, Impressionist painters or New Orleans history. Although Degas only lived in the house, since separated into two homes, with his brother and family for six months, his mother was from New Orleans, there is a rich history to this period of his life and the change brought to his art. Both the houses are incorporated into the tour. The family alone could be a book. Even though we are all familiar with Edgar Degas work, the insight behind many of his works is explained in enlightening detail. We left with a entirely new perspective of this great artist.
Adding to the depth of intimate knowledge, and charm, is that the tour is hosted by the Great-Grand nieces of Degas himself.

The tour is interesting. Our guideguide was related to Degas which was fascinating. The video could have been shorter.
